Picture yourself cruising along the breathtaking Highway 50 toward Elmdale, then turning westward — and in just 90 minutes, you arrive at a place where Kansas reveals its purest, most peaceful soul.
Feel the whisper of rustling leaves, gaze up at an unspoiled night sky bursting with stars, and soak in a golden calm that wraps around you like a warm embrace.
Nestled deep in the heart of West Chase County, surrounded by endless fields of vibrant soybeans and cradled by a gentle creek valley, lies a truly unique retreat: the Owl’s Nest Silo House.
But this isn’t just any getaway. Built in 2019, this beautifully crafted log cabin invites you to step into a world of rustic charm and comfort — your perfect home away from home, even if only for a weekend.
Gerald Wiens, the visionary behind this hidden gem, originally dreamed of a cozy log cabin for occasional weekend escapes.
“We thought, let’s build a log cabin and rent it out just a couple of weekends a month, like an Airbnb,” Gerald shared. “It was meant to be a simple weekend retreat.”

Little did Gerald expect the surge in demand during the pandemic — his Paw Print Cabin was booked for over 180 nights, turning a simple weekend idea into an overwhelming success.
Not far from the cabin stood an old silo, weathered but sturdy, quietly inspiring Gerald’s next big vision.
With creativity sparking to life, countless sketches, scale models, and brainstorming sessions fueled his ambition: to transform this towering, circular relic into a one-of-a-kind living space. Yet, its round shape brought unique challenges.
“That’s basically how it all came together,” Gerald explained to KSN. “We toyed with so many ideas, drew little models, and tried out different floor plans.”
The outcome? A stunning four-story marvel rising 45 feet into the sky.
Step inside the silo vacation rental, and you’re greeted by an entryway that flows effortlessly into a cozy, circular living room — a warm, intimate space crafted perfectly for comfort and relaxation.

The moment you step inside, your eyes are drawn to two plush leather chairs, perfectly arranged to spark cozy conversations or invite quiet moments of peaceful reflection.
For those seeking entertainment, a sleek flat-screen TV is thoughtfully mounted above a stunning stone-framed gas fireplace. Whether you’re settling in for a movie night or simply basking in the gentle glow of the flickering flames while your favorite show plays softly in the background, this living room creates an inviting sanctuary for every mood.

And for all the practical needs, a cleverly tucked-away half bathroom nestles discreetly beneath the winding staircase—ensuring guests never have to stray far from the cozy living space.
But the true magic awaits as you begin the enchanting climb up 45 spiraling steps, leading you to the crowning jewel of the Owl’s Nest Silo House: a breathtaking fourth-floor master bedroom, where comfort and charm reach new heights.

For those eager to experience this unique getaway, the cozy log cabin is already available on Airbnb under “Vacation Rentals Chase County,” and very soon, the extraordinary silo vacation rental will be joining the lineup.
“To call it a labor of love doesn’t even begin to cover it. We poured countless hours into this place. Honestly, if someone paid me to do it, I’d probably cringe thinking about how many hours went into it — it’s far from your typical construction,” Gerald confessed.
